Pilates and Fitness
Pilates is an exercise system that focuses on stretching, strengthening and controlling the whole body to improve balance, muscle-strength, flexibility and posture. The strength for every exercise comes from the center of the body or the “Powerhouse” using abdominal area, gluteus muscles, inner thighs and the lower back region.
Pilates is also an art of movement, a work out system called the Art of Contrology. It is about centering (working from centre to the periphery-limbs), concentration (to avoid injury and get into the breathing flow, the fast and safe transitions), control, precision (deeper essence of the exercise) and finally the breath.
Fitness industry leaders like „Les Mill's“ created a fitness program of their own called Body Balance, which is an excercise-to-music class that uses three main disciplines: Tai Chi to calm the center and gently warm the body for workout; Yoga to fully stretch, strengthen and energize the body and Pilates providing the quintessential core workout. The aim is to build flexibility and strenght that improves the funcionality of the body.
